YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
In this slow moving, multi-level class, learn to access a "soft spine" and create harmony within postures, as well as the joints and muscles.
Classes have both gentle flow sequences, standing and balancing postures ending with several restorative postures, and a long guided relaxation. Beginners are welcome.
Gentle Therapeutic Yoga
Stretch, breathe and relax into this gentle practice. Whether you are new to yoga, have had recent surgery, chronic pain or just need to work gently, Gentle Therapeutic Yoga is for you. Our practice will work with alignment, strengthening postures modified for your needs and relaxation techniques. The movement is slow and deliberate, focused on body awareness and fluidity of breath.
In this class we soothe and balance the body, mind and spirit using breath, gentle yoga postures. Mindful movements release stress, unwind the body, and calm the mind. This is a nurturing practice that emphasizes compassion, self-knowledge and acceptance.
Gentle Hanna Somatics
Hanna Somatic Education is a gentle and rapidly effective form of neuromuscular (mind-body training) movement re-education that goes directly to the root cause of most chronic muscular pain: the brain and the way in which it senses and organizes the muscles and movement. By learning to regain both awareness, sensation, and motor control of muscles - an educational process that can only be achieved through movement - the brain can remember how to relax and move the muscles properly. This process of sensory motor training creates improved muscle function and enhanced sensory awareness.
Hanna Somatic Education is a safe, gentle and common sense approach to reverse chronic pain. It is helpful for those suffering from headaches, stiff or painful joints and muscles, fatigue, poor posture, breathing problems, impaired movement, accident trauma and whiplash effects, back pain, repetitive use/stress injuries.

Moderate Level Yoga
A great class to transition from beginners to intermediate Yoga, explore the finer points of postures & breathing exercises in this thoughtfully sequenced class. Develop your attention with compassionate practice. Variations are always given for your personal practice.
This class is an opportunity to work deeply in postures, exploring the finer points of alignment and creative asana sequencing. This class focuses on intermediate/advanced postures including inversions, pranayama practices, kriyas and meditation. Somatic Movement, Essential oils, self massage and live music are often part of this Yoga class.

Somatic yoga is a blend of hatha yoga and somatics. It uses the principles from Hanna somatics to inform the practices of yoga. It is based on neurophysiology and it is taught from the first person perspective. It encourages awareness during all of the practices. You could say mindfulness, but it is a very special mindfulness fully informed by neurophysiology, anatomy, kinesiology, and psychology.This class combines a gentle and structural Hatha Yoga practice with a slow, quiet, and opening Yin Yoga practice. The Hatha portion of the class will include pranayama breathing exercises and classical asanas to gently warm and activate the body. The Yin practice will then release layers of tension and bracing as the postures access the connective tissue and energetic pathways of the body through long held postures, silence, and poetry.
Naam (Kundalini) Yoga
Naam Yoga is a complete and joyful approach to personal mind-body wellness and universal consciousness. It is an invaluable self-healing technology that balances the brain, the glandular, digestive, and nervous systems, allowing people to experience vibrant health. Naam Yoga merges the precise science of breath, sound, movement, and mudra therapy (hand postures) with the practical application of the laws of nature using the wisdom of Universal Kabbalah for total well being. Kundalini Yoga is a powerful way to work on your nervous system, the health of your organs, remove blockages from your life and your own mind. The science and art of kundalini yoga includes posture and movement, breath or pranayam, meditation, chanting, sound healing and every yoga technique united as one to reach specific effect. It doesn’t just give us clarity of the mind, balance, silence, stability and strength, but it gives us our own authentic selves. Our electromagnetic field purifies and we attract exactly as we project. Kundalini Yoga is called “Yoga of Awareness”. As we practice we learn to go deep inside ourselves, calm all the energies and thoughts inside. And in that stillness we learn to perceive more about people and situations than we normally would. With kundalini meditation we are able to clear our subconscious mind so our decision making is more conscious rather than based on programming.
Strengthen & Align Yoga
Work on building strength and maintaining physical alignment. Learn how to safely work through deeper poses while keeping your breath steady and your mind relaxed. This intermediate class builds on our Moderate class by playfully incorporating longer holdings, more challenging poses and strength training.
Experience a flow between postures connecting breath to each movement. Warming up with sun salutations, this class will lead you through standing poses, forward bends, twists, back-bends, occasionally arm balances and inversions, and finally relaxation. Some yoga experience and familiarity with basic postures is helpful.
Y12SR - Yoga of 12 Step Recovery
As a 12-step based discussion and yoga practice, Y12SR is open to anyone and everyone dealing with their
own addictive behavior or affected by the addictive behavior of others. This is a open and inclusive group. All A’s are welcome. No experience necessary.
